Appointment of Supreme Court (SC) Justice Umar Ata Bandial as an Interim Chief Justice

The oath was taken for the acting chief justice of Pakistan by Supreme Court (SC) Justice Umar Ata Bandial. This oath-taking ceremony took place on Friday. The oath was taken under the supervision of Justice Qazi Faez Isa. The oath was conducted at the Supreme Court in the capital city of Islamabad.

Pakistan’s 27th Chief Justice, CJP Gulzar Ahmed is now in the United States. He paid a personal visit there. Justice Bandial who is a veteran Supreme Court judge was nominated and appointed as Interim Chief Justice by President

Ministry of law and justice issued a notice on Tuesday which stated that Justice Umar Bandial will take the duties of Chief Justice of Pakistan until CJP Gulzar Ahmed is not in the country. Justice Bandial likewise filled in as the Chief Justice of Lahore High Court for a very long time until his duties were elevated as Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan in June 2014.


While performing his duties as a Judge of Lahore High court and during his career as Judge in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Umar Ata Bandial has issued decisions on several significant public and private law issues.

The judgments he rendered in this domain included Proclamations on civil and economic conflicts, constitutional rights, and matters of public concerns as well.
