China Intends to Integrate Afghanistan in BRI

Beijing is about to leap into the battled country and fill the vacuum left by the departed US and NATO troops as the US exits Afghanistan. With its Belt and Road Initiative, China will make its exclusive entrance into post-US Afghanistan (BRI).

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a source close to Afghan government officials told The Daily Beast that Kabul authorities are intensifying their efforts with China to extend the $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)the flagship project of the BRI, which involves the construction of highways, railways, and energy pipelines between Pakistan and Chinato Afghanistan.
