More convictions from the rioters linked to the Oath Keepers, prosecutor
July 3, 2021
WASHINGTON-A government lawyer said in court on Friday that federal prosecutors are discussing possible plea bargains with at least 12 of the 16 defendants in the U.S. Capitol riot accused of links to the far-right Oath Keepers movement.
Three Oath Keeper defendants have already entered guilty pleas and agreed to cooperate with authorities. At a hearing to discuss the status of the cases, Prosecutor Kathryn Rakoczy told Judge Amit Mehta that more Oath Keepers are likely to plead guilty.
The Southern Poverty Law Center describes the Oath Keepers as “one of the largest radical anti-government groups” in the United States, with a focus on recruiting current and former military, law enforcement, and emergency services personnel.
