Pakistan Records its Protest with India over Targeting of Muslims inAssam
September 25, 2021
The Foreign Office summoned India’s Charge d’Affaires to express Pakistan’s deep concern over the recent targeting of Muslims in India’s state of Assam, where a brutal eviction drive against Muslim residents has begun.A video circulating on social media showed police opening fire on locals in Assam before a cameraperson pounced on one of the men who had fallen motionless on the ground as a result of the attack, prompting outrage on Twitter.
The video shows cops firing blindly at unidentified targets hidden behind a thicket of trees. When a man rushes up to them, they encircle him and attack him with rods and sticks. A cameraperson runs towards the man as he collapses to the ground and lies motionless, presumably due to a gunshot. He repeatedly kicks and jumps on him.At least two people were killed in the incident, which occurred in Assam’s Darrang district’s Sipajhar area, where the majority of residents are Muslims of Bangla origin.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office issued a statement condemning the extrajudicial killing of three men in India-controlled Kashmir’s Uri Sector along the Line of Control. The killings, it said, were proof of India’s decades of unabated state terrorism against Kashmiris.
The ostensibly ‘anti-infiltration’ operation in Uri is a typical Indian false flag operation about which Pakistan has warned the world. This is an old Indian ruse to defame Pakistan.
According to the FO, India’s widespread human rights violations in IIOJK (Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir) warranted an investigation by a UN Commission of Inquiry, as recommended by the OHCHR in its 2018 and 2019 Kashmir reports.
