PM Imran praises China for providing an alternative to Western democracy
July 2, 2021
ISLAMABAD-Prime Minister Imran Khan praised the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for providing a distinct model of governance, describing it as an alternative to Western democracy.
The premier made the remarks while speaking to Chinese journalists in Beijing to honor the ruling party’s centennial. “Until now, we were told that the best way for societies to improve was through Western democracy,” Prime Minister Imran said.
“This is something unique in China. This is not seen in many other electoral democracies,” Imran said, adding that he had gone through China’s political process – from village to national level – and discovered that both President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang were well conscious of the people’s concerns.
The prime minister described President Xi Jinping as one of the modern world’s great statesmen for his commitment to fighting corruption, establishing rule of law, and lifting 700 million people out of poverty.
