The Elevated Judge

An Islamabad-based report states that a formerly working judge in the high court, Justice Jamal Khan took oath as a judge of the Supreme Court on Monday. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed declared the oath as a simple and dignified ceremony, held at the SC in Islamabad. The SC recorder directed the chronicles of the oath-taking formality.
The apex court justices, the attorney general of Pakistan, senior lawyers, law officers, and officers of the Law and Justice Commission attended the ceremony. The staff and officers of the SC also marked their attendance.
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) in July approved the name of the Balochistan High Court CJ for promotion to the Supreme Court. After seven years, a BHC judge had to be preeminent to the apex court. Before that only Justice Qazi Faez Isa, in September 2014, was elevated to the SC. The commission also ratified senior judge Naeem Afghan as the contemporary BHC chief justice.
In Quetta, A distinct ceremony was inaugurated at the Governor House, in which Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan was affirmed as the current chief justice of the BHC. Justice Afghan swore the oath by Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Ahmad Agha.
The oath-taking ceremony was joined by Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal, judges of the high court, provincial ministers, members of the Balochistan Assembly, and military officials. Both the ceremonies were studded with VIPs and officials.
