The Fourth Wave of Coronavirus

As the new variants of coronavirus strike the country, the cases have risen and within the last 24 hours, the number of positive cases that are registered is approximately 3,752. The cases took the national positivity rate to 7.52 %. The drastic change in the number of cases from 2,819 to 3,752 in a night marks the highest number of cases since 21st May 4,007 cases and a positivity rate of 8.23%.
These cases led to an increase in the total number of cases to 1,008,446 and the death toll from the virus stands at 23,048 with 32 deaths in 24 hours. The national command and operation reports show that how the percentage of ventilators and occupied ventilators beds in different cities of Pakistan is rising.
The President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi requested people to get serious and said he saw that coming as people were posing a careless attitude in the times of Eid. Streets, bazaars, weddings, mosques, and shops were filled with people. He advised people to show some responsibility and follow standard operating procedures. He also urged people to get immunized and vaccinated to save the people around them.
Pakistan’s People’s Party Senator Sherry Rehman showed her concern and warned people that with this low pace of vaccination, slow SOP compliance, and rising cases there will be no wonder in meeting the Covid disaster. She also referred to Pakistan’s being the 30th nation crossing a million cases.
As the Sindh Government re-imposed the corona restriction in and outside the house be it gathering, dining, or any other function, the cases have escalated a day after. The Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said that they are trying to vaccinate 40 % population by the end of August in major cities.
The delta variant that is spreading widely is the major cause behind the 4th wave of this virus. The delta variant which was diagnosed first in India has spread across 90 nations in total. Prime Minister Imran Khan has warned about the 4th wave concerning the delta variant with a high contractibility factor.
According to the specialist, there is approximately 92.2 % predominance of this delta variant in the country’s environment. Secretary-General of the Pakistan Medical Association, Dr. Qaiser Sajjad said that vaccination does not free you from following sops. The rise of cases and facilities in hospitals in this regard is acting inversely.
